New century, new future for historic Port Sunlight village

OFFICES of the Port Sunlight Village Trust were opened by the Chairman of Unilever last week.

The Trust was established by Unilever to take over the administration of this historically important area from the company.

Unilever has funded the organisation for its long-term future, but the Trust will act independently from the company. The Trust has been established to preserve and maintain the land and buildings within the Conservation Area of picturesque Port Sunlight.

The Trust plans to work closely with local residents, community groups and Wirral Council to ensure a bright future for the village.

Chairman of Trustees Graham Bell said: "The transfer from Unilever to the Trust is a unique occasion in the history of this beautiful village.

"It is symbolic that the transfer coincides with the dawn of the new century, as it is just over 100 years since William Hesketh Lever had the vision to create this model community."
