THE ongoing confusion created by April's change of postcodes on the Wirral has thrown up a new twist - 'Ernie' refuses to recognise the new addresses at National Savings Premium Bonds' office!
Now, Heswall resident Mr E. Nicholls is at odds with 'Ernie', who insists on adding 'Merseyside' to correspondence carrying a Cheshire postcode.
When Mr. Nicholls wrote to National Savings' head office to complain, he was told: "Wirral is not easily recognisable with all members of the population. We must continue to include Merseyside in the address."
Mr Nicholls told the Globe: "This contradicts what we were told by Royal Mail in their circular of April this year and makes the change of address labels we were supplied with pretty useless."
Sue Taylor, of National Savings, said: "Although a number of our customers will expect us to update our records to show the amended details, this process is not as simple as it may seem."
