MAYOR of Wirral, Councillor Hugh Lloyd, performed a 'stone-laying' ceremony for a new cornerstone development of retirement apartments on the site of the former Orange Grove Hotel at Hoylake.

Demolition of the original building caused controversy among some residents.

Building director David Finney, of Joseph Finney, was therefore pleased that the Mayor helped lay the commemorative stone for what will be a 'landmark' development for Hoylake.

The Orange Grove development in Market Street, Hoylake, will comprise 50 self-contained flats. Communal dining, kitchen and lounge areas, with landscaped gardens and seating areas also planned.

Work is due for completion in June 2000. The first show flat will be available for viewing in November 1999. Joseph Finney plc is the contractor in conjunction with Bovis Retirement Homes.
