ONYX UK will take over Wirral's refuse collection service from UK Waste Management next month.

The hand over takes place on Sunday, August 22 and meetings between Onyx and the workforce were taking place this week. Householders are warned that they may experience some delay in the service, although Wirral Council, Onyx UK, UK Waste Management and local trade unions say they are working together to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Cllr Dave Jackson, leader of Wirral Borough Council, said: "We are asking people to bear with us so that we can ensure that the Onyx takeover goes as smoothly as possible.

"Staff need a couple of hours to meet with the new employer. Delays will be kept to a minimum, and crews may be delayed by up to half a day," he added.

Residents who experience difficulties can ring Wirral Council on 666-5252, where they can leave a message to be actioned as soon as possible.
