A DRUNKEN teenager who walked away from the scene of an early morning crash later flagged down a police car to say he was responsible, Wirral magistrates were told.

Mathew Harry Millington, 19, of Shawbury Avenue, Bebington, who had earlier attended the funeral of a close relative, admitted aggravated taking of his mother's VW Golf car, drink driving, and not being covered by a licence.

He hit a parked car which in turn was shunted into a van at 2.25am in Village Road, Bebington.

Millington said he could not remember what happened.

He was ordered to serve 80 hours community work and was banned from driving for a year. The magistrates told him he had showed responsible behaviour after the crash, but not before it.
