IT might be some years before youngsters from Somerville Primary School, Wallasey, take their driving tests, but it hasn't stopped them brushing up on their Highway Code and practising tricky manoeuvres - on their bikes!
Road safety skills, cycling manoeuvres and awareness of possible hazards were just some of the issues that were tackled by Year 6 pupils who completed the Cycling Proficiency Course.
Some 27 children passed the test and will be receiving certificates to prove that they are safe riders.
The course was organised by Somerville teacher Peter Bioletti, who instructed the pupils before Wirral Council's Road Safety team put them through their paces with a test of their practical skills and knowledge.
Said Mr Bioletti: "We deliberately ran the course just before the Summer holidays so that the subject of safe cycling was uppermost in the children's minds as they get out their bikes during the coming weeks."
