WIRRAL motorists are being encouraged to take the train or bus to work, to avoid congestion in Bebington caused by major roadworks on the M53 and at Hooton. The town is en route to several factories employing thousands of workers.

Merseytravel is asking motorists to consider other modes of transport, other than the car, following long traffic jams on the M53 and in the Bebington area, caused by drivers trying to avoid the congestion.

Merseytravel Director General Neil Scales suggests they try alternatives rather than sweat it out at the wheel. "Why fume, when you could be reading the paper, or catching up on a few minutes sleep? Many drivers have a deeply ingrained prejudice against public transport even though they never use it."

Mr Scales points out there are rail stations at Eastham Rake and Hooton, less than a mile from Junction 5 on the M53. There are also bus services which link up to local stations. For more information ring 236-7676.
