CAMPAIGNERS against the demolition of historic Hooton Hangars are asking pilots of light aircraft to fly down the old runway at Hooton Park on Saturday and Sunday.

The WWI hangars are set to be demolished by Vauxhall and campaigners are desperately trying to save them.

The flight over the airfield may include a Spitfire and a Tiger Moth in a tribute to those who died in the Battle of Britain 59 years ago today.

Nearly 2,000 letters from around the world have arrived protesting against the proposed demolition. Said campaigner Mike Lewis: "Vauxhall have indicated a willingness to discuss alternatives and we are hoping that these hangars, which were built in 1917 can be saved."
