MP voices encouragement for scientists of future

WIRRAL West MP Stephen Hesford was among the welcoming party when HRH Princess Anne visited Upton Hall Convent School to celebrate its 150th anniversary and open the £2.24m Lingdale science and technology building.

Family man Mr Hesford also toured the convent for a presentation of education-through-the-ages, from a recreation of a Victorian classroom to the high-tech science lab, where pupils will be carrying out experiments and work projects.

Speaking after meeting the Princess Royal, Mr Hesford said: "I am delighted that Upton Hall Convent has this new facility. Many women are choosing to make their career in science, which I believe is a result of schools like Upton Hall encouraging girls to take this option."

As pupils cheered the Royal visitor, Mr Hesford added: "It is a great boost to both school and girls that Princess Anne has been able to op..en this new complex today."
