From Christine Lambert:-

HOW many more ugly letters do we have to read about Birkenhead Park? 'Disgusted Grandad' (Mailbox, September 29) is right - we do need the wardens. We need lots of them and we need them now!

Let's look at the facts:-

Someone was recently assaulted in the Park toilets.

Toilets are filthy and covered in grafitti.

Broken glass is littered over the rocks.

Fences are down since the storms.

Drunks are seen daily wandering about.

I saw a teenager riding a motorbike up and down the hills and on the inner paths of the duck pond.

The old flower gardens are now a dangerous, unattended, stinking swamp just waiting for a child to wander in.

Surely, someone being assaulted in the toilets - let alone all the other things - warrants the need for the return of the wardens?

I thought Birkenhead Park had been awarded a Lottery grant to coincide with its centenary last year - why not use some of this money to make it a nicer and safer place to be, like it used to be?
