WAYNE Allison's double strike helped Rovers climb three places off the bottom of the Nationwide League Division One.
Inspired by Allison and on loan Tony Grant, who pulled the midfield strings, Rovers were full value for victory. Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Alan Mahon was unfortunate to hit a post early on. Recalled striker Scott Taylor also missed a good chance.
Rovers scored the vital first goal on 74 minutes, Allison first to meet a Grant corner to send a magnificent, low stooping header into the corner of the net.
Allison made it 2-0 when he held off a defender and produced a superb finish curled past former Everton goalkeeper Jason Kearton five minutes from time.
Tranmere: Achterberg, Allen, Roberts (sub: Thompson, 88 mins), Yates, Challinor, Hill, Mahon (sub: Henry, 84 mins), Santos, Allison, Taylor (sub: L. Jones, 64 mins), Grant.
