BEBINGTON 'Water-loo' campaigner Malcolm Smith has written to the Globe to express his personal thanks to all those who supported his successful fight to get public toilets in Higher Bebington Park.
Mr Smith, who started his campaign after he saw mums in the park having to take their children into the bushes to go to the toilet, has paid particular tribute to the people of Bebington, especially those who signed his 584-signature petition.
"I would also like to thank local councillors Jerry Williams and Kath Shaugnessy and our local MP, Ben Chapman, who all gave me excellent support," said Mr Smith, who lives in Brackenwood Road, Higher Bebington.
"Also the local shops and Mrs Jackie Hall, of Heswall Conservative Association, as well as 'The Lady in the Park', who was a tremendous help to me throughout the campaign."
Mr Smith also praised the Globe "for your quick response in our hour of need. The support from the newspaper has been magnanimous."
Wirral Leisure Services Committee has decided that the public will be allowed access to the toilet in the new library computer building. The Council will monitor the situation for six months.
"One toilet, though, is still not enough," said Mr Smith.
