A CALDY pensioner committed sucide by hanging, an inquest heard.

Mary Josepha Reid, aged 77, of Caldy Road, Caldy, was found on May 20 hanging by the cord of her dressing gown tied around an exposed ground floor ceiling beam.

Her husband, Robert Reid, found her at 6.30am. The last time he saw his wife was the previous night when they went to bed.

The inquest was told Mrs Reid was treated for depression and often felt low early in the morning. The couple's daughter later found an undated suicide note in her bedroom cabinet, and the notes indicated she had previously tried to take her life. Mrs Reid had been to her doctor the previous day and her medication was adjusted.

Wirral Coroner Christopher Johnson said Mary Josepha Reid had suffered depression for many years and she intended to take her life.

He returned a verdict of suicide.
