WIRRAL ship repair company Cammell Laird has paid £532,000 for Camper & Nicholsons (Yachts) Ltd. The announcement follows the news, as reported in last week's Globe, that the Birkenhead yard has won a £51 million contract to carry out the world's largest cruise ship conversion. Cammell Laird Holdings plc said the consideration for the latest acquisition will be satisfied by the issue of £496,000 in Cammell Laird ordinary shares, plus £36,000 in cash. Cammell Laird is also paying a further £2 million for the freehold site currently leased to Camper & Nicholsons (Yachts) at Gosport. Laird said the acquisition of Camper & Nicholsons (Yachts) complements its successful move into the conversion, refurbishment and repair of cruise ships and will form the basis of the group's move towards strengthening its offering to the Mediterranean luxury yacht market from its Gibraltar shipyard.
