ENVIRONMENTAL problems across the globe were brought under the spotlight when pupils at Bidston Avenue Primary School, Claughton, were shown the damage waste does to the planet.
Groundwork Wirral launched a 'WasteSavers' project to demonstrate how people at a local level can make a difference. Using funds from UK Waste's landfill tax, Groundwork also provided this friendly, froggy litter bin.
Last Autumn pupils were involved in a slide show following the problems litter causes, including the dangers to humans. Pupils in Years 1 and 5 designed posters to try to discourage people from dropping litter. They visited a road sweeper to explore health and safety issues further and 'Health & Safety Captains' were appointed to ensure pupils were behaving sensibly. The pupils also plotted where their rubbish goes after it leaves their homes.
