WIRRAL resident Ross Thomson and girlfriend Tracey Anderson found themselves setting off on a holiday-of-a-lifetime - all because Ross made an effort to reduce pollution.
They are pictured about to board the famous Orient Express which took them to Venice - their prize in the Government's Are You Doing Your Bit? campaign.
Ross, from Birkenhead, was first to respond to a ringing telephone in a local call box - without using a car - and answered live on air on Liverpool's MAGIC AM radio station how he was 'doing his bit' to help the environment. The campaign encourages people to take small steps toward reducing waste and pollution by adapting their travel habits, conserving water and other activities to fight global warming.
Ross and Tracey won the prize, along with an annual network travel ticket, mountain bike and a pair of walking shoes, when his name was drawn from the first round winners.
