MERSEYRAIL Electrics is in line for a national award - for offering good service to disabled customers.

The network has been shortlisted for a national Ease of Access, Service and Employment (EASE) award for disability awareness, thanks to passenger Alan Martin, of Moreton, who nominated Merseyrail Electrics.

The company is one of three finalists in the 'best transport' category following comments such as 'the staff are always helpful'. The award winners will be announced on November 1 at a luncheon in London.

Said disabled passenger Alan: "Despite old platforms and stations which were not designed with wheelchairs in mind, and needing to ask for two days notice before I travel, Merseyrail staff always do their best to make my journeys possible.

"I use Merseyrail many times a week, and the staff always listen to my suggestions about how to make their service better for me. They are one of the few services which seems to recognise that disabled people are the 'experts' when it comes to making public transport accessible. Using public transport is still difficult for people with disabilities."
