WIRRAL is to play its part in a pilot scheme to make the National Health Service accessible to everyone.

One of the 36 NHS walk-in services being developed across the country will be sited with the GP out-of-hours service, adjacent to the A&E unit at Arrowe Park Hospital, Upton.

A satellite centre is to be located in the Minor Injuries Unit of the Victoria Central Hospital, Wallasey.

The walk-in centres are aimed at helping people who have difficulty in using the service, perhaps because of long working hours. They will be open in the early morning, evenings and at weekends to fit in with people's modern lifestyles.

Explained John Denham, Minister of State for Health: "NHS walk-in centres will dramatically improve access to high quality health care for millions of people."

Both sites, which are easily accessible by public transport, will give immediate access to free consultations, minor treatment, health information and advice on self-treatment.
