WIRRAL soldier Alan Jones has been commended for his exemplary service while serving in Northern Ireland with 1st Battalion The Cheshire Regiment, at a special awards ceremony. Cpl Jones, currently based in Cyprus, received the 'General Officer Commanding Northern Ireland Commendation' from the Commander of the British Forces in Cyprus, Major General Angus Ramsay. Said Alan, whose parents live in Birkenhead: "I was both shocked and happy."
