From Kevin Smith:-
I WAS appalled to read (Globe, last week) of the 'handout' by Wirral Borough Council of £47,000 to the teacher Muriel Benson.
Firstly, I hope everyone realises that this money is directly, or indirectly, coming from the pockets of the council tax payers of Wirral. Secondly, Ms Benson as a teacher is an educated adult capable of rational thought and, if so, why did she not simply change to another position when her present one proved too much for her? The rest of us who work in the real world outside the closeted world of academia would have to do this, why not her? Thirdly, if teachers cannot take control of their own destiny and expect to be nannied by their employers, there will be little hope for their pupils when they mature. Instead of taking charge of their own destiny, they will be looking to the State for their every need.
Is this the brave new world we really want for the next generation?
