NO fewer than four teams head the Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One table with 20 points following the latest round of matches.

New leaders on goal difference are Ashville, who despite having goalkeeper Tim Riggs sent-off midway through the second period, held on for a 0-0 draw against a Stork outfit who saw Paul Wiggins missing the resultant penalty.

Cammell Laird's Neil Larkin also took an early bath as his side drew 1-1 at the league's only unbeaten side, Vauxhall. Andy Lee scored for Lairds only for Gary Washington to equalise.

Heswall (Ricky Comber) drew 1-1 with Capenhurst (Robbie Shepherd).

After Gareth McEvoy earlier missed a penalty for Newton, goal king Kevin Rhone went one better with his spot kick in a 1-1 draw with Mersey Royal, who had gone ahead through Chris McGinn.

Poulton Victoria represented Cheshire FA in the Northern Counties Championships and came from behind to earn a 4-2 win over Cleator Celtic (Cumberland FA), thanks to goals from Tony Taylor, Mike McGraa, Robbie Morley and John Edwards.

Highlight of the West Cheshire Shield was a tremendous come-back by New Brighton Reserves (Gareth Gill, 2, Peter Swan, 2, Tim Gilbert and Carl Horstman). They bounced back from 4-1 down to clinch an unlikely 6-4 success against Willaston (Dave Povey, 3, Nick Williams).

Successive 4-3 wins over Christleton Reserves in midweek and Poulton Victoria Reserves on Saturday have moved Ashville Reserves up to third place in Division Two. West Kirby (John Power, pen) drew 1-1 with Christleton Reserves (John Bates).

Stork Reserves, with Duncan Burrows, Jim Sterling and Stuart Rylands on target, ended a losing sequence with a 3-2 win over Poulton Victoria Reserves (Kevin Pink, Scott Taylor).
