LOCAL RUGBY ROUND-UP by Andrew Stratton
CALDY are left to carry the local hopes in the NPI Cup. They cut loose in the second-half at Wilmslow to win 38-15.
Matt Pennington crossed twice and Peter Hart, Mark Kennaghan and Richard Farrell once each, with the latter adding two conversions and a trio of penalties.
Birkenhead Park produced an improved performance at Lymm, but time ran out on them as they searched for a winning score. It finished 17-21 with Duncan Meehan and Steve Hancock managing tries and Jason Gilbert both conversions and a penalty.
Oldershaw started badly at Altrincham and the recovery was too late in a 17-37 score. Geoff Ord, Matt Beston and Mike Myerhoff touched down and Willy Gardner goaled once. Hoylake whipped Vulcan 39-0 in the Tetley's Bitter Vase. Rob Kurton grabbed a brace of tries with singles via Alan Robinson, Martin Williams, John McNeil, Trevor Boult and Richard Young, who converted twice.
This Saturday, league matches include unbeaten Caldy v Stockport, who are just behind them second in North West One and Oldershaw v Birkenhead Park.
