TWO Merseyside barristers are to risk life and limb on a charity adventure this weekend - for the second time in a year

Damien Saunders, of Rock Ferry, and Steven Swift, from Blundellsands, cycled more than 340km across North West India to the Taj Mahal in February.

The duo's effort raised more than £5,000 to provide mobility aids for disabled children in India through the charity Whizz Kidz.

But on Sunday they plan to top that by abseiling down the side of the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, for British Red Cross. They will be accompanied by members of the Liverpool Bar and local solicitors who will take the plunge from the top of the hotel.

Joining them will be hotel deputy general manager Brian Birchall, one of the stars of the BBC documentary series Hotel, who will climb out of a hotel bedroom and abseil more than 120 feet into the beer garden.

The money raised will go towards Red Cross charity services on Merseyside, which include fire victim support and a variety of home care.

Earlier in the year, staff and volunteers were involved in arrangements to feed and clothe Kosavan refugees, and they are still involved with helping the refugees make contact with friends and family internationally.

There are still places available on the abseil and anyone who turns up will have to sign a form saying they will raise a minimum of £50 for the charity.

The abseil will be overseen by The Rope Race Co and previous experience is not needed. A similar event last year raised £10,000.
