From C. Barwood:-

HAVING read the letters that have appeared in Mailbox over the last few weeks, I agree with those who complain about the new speed limit on the A540 (Chester High Road).

I, along with fellow users who commute on this route from Heswall to Chester or Wales every day and night, can not understand why the whole road has had a blanket speed limit of 40 mph enforced upon it.

We feel this is not the way to be addressing the safety issue. It should be reviewed again immediately with a panel of people who have used the road for a long time, along with the police and a road safety officer. We are convinced that this newly implemented speed limit is an over zealous reaction.

We agree that there are problems concerning safety with the road - and there still is, even with the new limit. We universally agree there are hazards, the worst being the junction with Raby Park Road leading to Neston Leisure Centre.

This junction has contributed to many accidents, and will continue to do so until it is either closed, re-routed or made into a one-way system, but needlessly inconveniencing daily users of this road is not the solution.
