WALLASEY finally had something to celebrate at the weekend as they gained their first success of the season in North West Three League, beating Sandbach 37-10.

Ian Booth gained two tries with singles via Mark Trevitt, Dave Jones and Colin Kirby, who also targetted three conversions and a brace of penalties.

In North West One, Birkenhead Park, Caldy and Oldershaw all won.

Birkenhead saw off Aspull 35-17 with tries via Steve Dodd, Peter McCrave, Paul Leeman and Jason Gilbert, who added three conversions and a trio of penalties.

Caldy settled for a 23-7 scoreline against Kirby Lonsdale. There were touch downs for Sam Cotterell, Chris Young, Sean Williams and Steve Trowler. Peter Hart kicked a penalty.

The game started late with the visitors held up in traffic and it put the pressure on Hart, who had a 5pm London train to catch heading for Tranmere Rovers' Wembley final.

Hart withdrew midway through the second period with Caldy in control. Mike Walker substituted.

Oldershaw ran in seven tries to beat bottom club Ashton-on-Mersey 43-7. Willy Gardner gained two of them and four conversions. Other tries went to Neil Hawkins, Danny Jones, Gavin Scott, Keith Warren and Martin Sutton.

Prenton beat Anselmians 20-13 in the South Lancashire/Cheshire Two derby. Former Anselmians players James Newman, Peter Collins and Dan Hodson gained tries for Prenton and Phil Sheridan a conversion and a penalty.

Mark Weaver kicked two penalties for the losers and converted a try by Martin Pilgrim.

Ellesmere Port stayed top with a 26-18 win over Sefton.

Parkonians, in Division Three, accounted for Helsby 20-15 thanks to touch downs from Mark Hillan and Billy Gilfoyle, plus two conversions and two penalties by Andy Evans.

Port Sunlight lost 3-20 against Collegiate. Carl Taylor kicked a consolation penalty.

Hoylake lost 8-31 at Runcorn and it also meant they went out of the Cheshire Plate, as both clubs agreed the match would count as a double header. Trevor Boult gained the Hoylake try and Simon Robinson a penalty.

A number of clubs do not play this weekend, but Birkenhead Park go to Caldy for a re-arranged league game. Wirral welcome St Mary's.
