IT'S back to the bread and butter of Nationwide League Division One action for Tranmere Rovers this Saturday - but the big game atmosphere will still be in the air.

John Aldridge's cup heroes, who face the long trip to Portsmouth for an unwanted league encounter tonight (Wednesday), entertain Jack Walker's multi million pound Blackburn Rovers at Prenton Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

It may be difficult for Rovers to return to earth mentally and physically. Said Mr Aldridge: "Portsmouth seem to think so. That's why they have dragged us down there after the cup final. But I tell you what, they won't get a walk over. Take this from me, they're in for a fight on Wednesday night for what they've done to us."

Is that fighting talk for a last ditch attempt for the play offs? "To be quite honest, we've left ourselves too much to do," came the reply. "But we'll certainly try to amass as many points as possible and give our spectators something to cheer about because they do deserve it."
