POLICE are warning women to be on their guard after recording 16 handbag snatches in just a month.

And on Saturday a 14-year-old girl had a brand new mobile 'phone stolen when three youths snatched her carrier bag near Birkenhead's Conway Park railway station.

The first boy is described as about 14 years old, white, 5ft 5ins tall with dark eyes and a thin moustache. He was wearing a navy Nike cap, Henri Lloyd coat and black trousers. His second accomplice was about 12, 5ft tall and wearing a cream coat. The third boy was also white, about 12, skinny and 5ft tall. If you have information about this incident, call %777-2256.

qOFFICERS are also appealing for information about the driver of a mint-coloured car who is said to have offered three 10 and 11-year-old girls a lift in the Birkenhead Park area at 2pm on Saturday. When the girls refused, the man parked his car in Ashburton Road and followed them on foot, making off when the girls approached some teenagers.
