A WALLASEY woman is hoping to be crowned as the most glamorous grandmother in Great Britain at the final of a national competition.

Joyce Whitfield will travel to Scarborough next month to battle it out for the prestigious title.

Started up by Butlin's in 1957, the 'Most Glamorous Grandmother in Great Britain' competition has been relaunched by Grand Hotels and Joyce will be one of 20 finalists taking part.

The 66-year-old triumphed in a heat fought out in Llandudno and a semi final in Blackpool to secure her place in the big showdown at Scarborough's Grand Hotel.

The grans will have to go through gruelling interviews to prove their glamour to the judges. An experienced competitor, Joyce walked away with the title in 1993 and hopes to do it again.

The retired gran is married to William and has five children. And if she wins the £1,500 first prize in the competition she says she would like to both have a holiday and treat her 11 grandchildren.

She says: "I've done it before and it was lovely to win. This competition is a great way of meeting friends and I treat it as a bit of fun but I still get a little nervous at the time!"

In her spare time Joyce enjoys line dancing to keep her fit and gardening in the summer.
