HARD frost played havoc with Saturday's Carlsberg West Cheshire League programme with just three games completed and none of the five scheduled Senior Cup ties taking place.

The league action was confined to Division Two, where Poulton Victoria Reserves played host to Pavilions in an entertaining affair which saw both sides with chances to take the lead before Gary Reay put Vics in front with a flying header 13 minutes before the break.

Gareth McEvoy doubled the Vics lead within minutes, and though the visitors had come into the game on the strength of a six game winning run they were unable to apply the final touch to any of their attacks.

Mark Savage and fellow striker Darren Mayers both missed a number of clear chances after the break as Vics celebrated a 2-0 success that lifts them above Pavilions into second place in the table.

Ashville Reserves slipped into the bottom two as a result of their 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Shell Reserves, and to add insult to injury it was one of their former players who did most of the damage.

Ritchie White was the two goal hero for The Oilmen, who also had Paul Atherton on target as they doubled their number of wins and points for the campaign. Paul Murray struck Ashville's consolation from the penalty spot.

Jumping above Ashville Reserves are West Kirby, who pulled off an excellent result when holding title chasing Cammell Laird Reserves to a 2-2 draw. Chris Barrow and Mike Wild were the men on the mark while Ian Parry and Aaron Crumsie netted for the visitors.

Results: Division Two: Ashville res 1 Shell res 3, Poulton Vics res 2 Pavilions 0, West kirby 2 Cammell Laird Res 2.
