TWO Wheelchair tennis players from Wirral Tennis Centre in Bidston have made a New Year Resolution to be the very best.

Mark Eccleston, 31, is currently ranked number three in the world in wheelchair singles, having won both the Japan and Dutch Opens in 2000. He is now on a four weeks tour of Australia that could see him take the number one position from his American rivals.

Playing in the Brisbane, Sydney and Australian Opens, Mark knows that victory in two of the three will be enough to give Britain its first number one player in any singles ranking since lists were first introduced.

Debbie Simms also had a great 2000, winning the ladies' B division nationals at her first attempt, thanks to financial support from the Abbey National. This year she hopes not only to win the A division nationals, but also hopes to be selected for GB training for the World Cup Team the wheelchair equivalent of the Davis Cup.
