West Cheshire Football League Division One

Newton 3 General Chemicals 2

THIS was really an unlucky 13th for the Runcorn side as they travelled to Newton, led the game for most of the 90 minutes and came away with nothing.

In fairness Newton have signed new players from the Liverpool area, and looked a strong side, but Chemics yet again missed chances and were made to suffer from this.

That man Kevin Ward opened the scoring, hammering the ball past the Newton keeper after 15 minutes.

In the last 10 minutes of the first half we saw two further goals, an equaliser from Newton, as Chemics stand-in keeper Greg Murphy tried to kick the ball clear.

He missed the ball completely and Newton could not believe their luck as the ball rolled agonisingly into the empty net.

Just before the interval a great Chemics move was converted by Paul Howard, so it was 2-1 at half time.

In the second half, skipper Mark Robinson was guilty of a missed chance as he headed wide with only the keeper to beat.

Chemics fans then appealed for a penalty as Kev Ward appeared to be pulled down in the Newton penalty area, but referee Steve Cummings denied their claims.

In the last 15 minutes, Newton centre forward broke free to score the equaliser.

Yet again in the dying minutes Chemics conceded a late goal to lose the game.

It was a sad day because the three points would have seen a rise up the league table.

Next week Chemics are away to Kydds Wine Bar in the Runcorn Cup, kick-off 2pm at Frodsham.

Weekly £100 winner was Mr G Melbourne.
