TWO conmen have callously duped an elderly woman by posing as officials from British Gas.
The scam took place on Friday, at about 4pm at the victim's home in Bellhouse Road, Halton View in Widnes.
The two offenders tricked their way in by claiming they were performing routine checks on gas pipes.
One of the men delayed the pensioner in the kitchen while his partner searched the upstairs of the house.
The men escaped with her pension and other cash. They were thought to have escaped in the direction of Page Lane.
Det Con Neil Davidson said: "This was a despicable act and these offenders need to be caught before any similar offence can occur."
The first offender is described as a white male, 5ft 8 - 11ins, 25 years old with a slim, average build and dark hair.
The second is also a white male with a stocky build. He was 6ft tall and wearing a dark jacket and tie.
