A HESWALL field that hit the headlines last year has been the target of vandalism.

And it is feared the three horses now being kept in the field are in serious danger.

Glass has been dropped in the field and in the horses' water trough, cables have been cut on the electric fences so the horses can escape, and 25ft of fencing has been stolen.

Sherron Parry, who owns the horses, is 'disgusted' by the vandals. She told the Globe: "I have had horses on the field for about four months and trouble started soon after they moved on."

When the fence has been vandalised, horses have been getting out of the field onto another patch of land, leaving them frightened and vulnerable. One horse has already been injured when it fell down a slope and became twisted in barbed wire.

Sherron says: "The horses are in danger and I am being forced to look for somewhere else."

The field, owned by Susan Marguerie, was in the news last October when she received permission to close a trio of badger setts with the hope of raising horses on the land. As machinery moved onto the site, wildlife groups argued that one of the setts was still active. Ms Marguerie, however, had monitored the setts and said, with the support of MAFF, that she was satisfied it was not inhabited.
