A BUSY Wirral junction is closing for two nights while work to ease traffic congestion takes place.

Spital crossroads, which has been under reconstruction for almost five months, will be closed on Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3, between 10pm and 6am while contractors carry out resurfacing work.

Between these hours, diversions will be displayed on signs near the junction.

Residents asked for improvements to the crossroads after Wirral Council launched a campaign to find out what people wanted.

Cllr Harry Smith, cabinet member for transport and infrastructure, said: "This work will ease congestion at the junction, which has become notorious for delays.

"We are carrying out the work at night to minimise inconvenience to residents and we have liaised with them during every step of the work.

"When work is completed, it will help road users by making the junction safer and cutting journey times."
