THE BISHOP of Birkenhead was on hand on Sunday to lay the foundation stone for the rebuilding of the Emmanuel Church, in New Brighton.
The original foundation stone was re-laid to mark the rebuilding of the church on Seabank Road.
The demolition of the old church and hall was completed last year and the new structure using the original porch entrance and trusses from the old church has started going up.
It is due for completion in early October this year, with 14 sheltered apartments at the rear of the site for the Liverpool Housing Trust.
Vicar of New Brighton, the Rev Christopher Boyce, told the Globe: "Fund-raising is not quite complete, but the amount raised so far has been extremely encouraging.
"The sale of the rear site for sheltered housing and a grant from Wallasey Regeneration has helped, but the Church family of St James with Emmanuel have seen their work wonderfully rewarded in the money raised."
