PEEL Holdings have won planning consent to develop a sustainable waste management centre in Eastham.
The centre, at land near to North Road will accept around 120,000 tonnes of household and green waste a year and aim to provide an improved alternative to traditional landfill tip sites.
Peel Holdings say most waste delivered to the site will be sorted and recycled within a purpose-built enclosed building eliminating concerns over noise or dust.
Green waste will be separately composted to be used as an alternative to topsoil or as a soil conditioner.
