A TERRITORIAL army soldier from Birkenhead is spending six months working in Bosnia.

Lance Corporal Maxine Butler is normally based at the TA centre of the Royal Logistic Corps in Wirral but is now working as a personal assistant to the commander of the multinational force's headquarters in Sarajevo.

A 22-year-old former pupil of Pensby High School for Girls in Heswall, Maxine, pictured right, works as a clerk in civilian life and joined the TA in 1997.

Talking about her work in Bosnia, she says: "My job is interesting. I work with many nationalities and not all of them speak English so sign language takes over.

"Working as a PA means I don't get outside the camp much, but from what I have seen of the country it is beautiful and there is a lot of rebuilding going on.

"We have all the facilities we need here and it is such a big international base. Many countries have their own shops and we have gyms and restaurants."
