A CARAVAN outside The Admiral public house in Rock Ferry was left severely damaged on Saturday evening after it was set alight. Fire fighters were called to the scene at around 9pm. A spokesperson at the fire service said that the incident was being treated as arson.

FUNDRAISING firefighters are holding an open day at Wallasey Fire Station in Mill Lane on Saturday from 11am-4pm in aid of their counterparts in New York. Nearly £3,000 has already been raised for the heroes through car washes at West Kirby, Upton, Birkenhead and Toxteth fire stations.

BRIMSTAGE Road, Bebington, will be closed later today (Wednesday) from the M53 Roundabout to Brimstage Lane, so line markings can be re-painted on the road. The work will be carried out overnight from 7pm to 7am to keep disruption to a minimum.

BIRKENHEAD Library Cinema Club's 30th anniversary season starts with the blockbuster 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' being screened tomorrow (Thursday). FIREFIGHTERS were called out following a chemical leak in Birkenhead at around 1pm on Sunday.

People complained of a bad smell in the area close to the Central Hotel in Clifton Crescent - where a small amount of methyl methcrylate had been spilt on the road. It was cleared up by fire crews.

TALENTED Wirral youngsters joined Mickey Mouse and his friends to perform their own 20-minute show at EuroDisney in Paris. Singers and dancers of the Barbara Johnston Stage School, Oxton Road, Birkenhead performed their spectacular show after travelling to the fantasy resort last month - and have already been asked to go back next year!

PORT Sunlight Women's Institute will host a fundraising afternoon at the residents' club in Port Sunlight on behalf of the Emmanuel community on Monday next week, October 1, starting at 2pm.
