TWO Wirral projects got a right Royal seal of approval this week.

That was when Princess Anne, the Princess Royal stopped off for several hours in the borough.

The Royal visitor first stopped off in Birkenhead to officially open Mary Cole House, the new £820,000 centre for the homeless provided by the Wirral Churches' Ark Project.

The Ark - which operates an emergency access hostel for the homeless - received lottery funding to construct the new building on land given by Wirral Council.

Mary Cole House can accommodate 22 residents, with seven in individual bedrooms and 15 in dormitories. Showers and laundry facilities are available and three hot meals a day are provided by a team of 80 volunteers.

The Princess Royal, who is patron of the National Association of Victim Support Schemes, next visited Mayer Hall in Bebington to attend a special meeting of Wirral Scheme.

While there she met members of staff and volunteers from the Wirral and Wallasey schemes.
