WIRRAL is to receive just under £million of Government funding to help in the fight against drug crime.

The borough is one of 30 areas in the North West to share in a £94 million package announced by the Home Secretary, David Blunkett.

Mr Blunkett said: "These substantial extra funds will enable local agencies on the front line to boost the work they do to tackle crime and drug misuse. We want to give local partnerships the resources and flexibility to target investment where it will reduce crime and deliver real change on the ground."

Regional Director of the Crime Reduction Unit, David Smith, said: "This is good news for local communities and bad news for criminals. This new package amounts to more than £18million for the North West."
