TRICORN increased their advantage to 10 points at the top of the South Wirral Football League's Robin Hodgson Premier Division, on Saturday.

Three-goal star Paul Dwyer showed the way in a clinical 3-0 defeat of Widnes visitors Avon Athletic (writes Vernon Lee).

With reigning champions, General Chemicals, the main danger in second place, with two games in hand, it is looking ominous, at this stage, that the title will remain in the hands of a Runcorn club for the second year in succession.

Fourth-placed Bebington Athletic, enjoying their first season in the top flight, visited Wallasey club Vanser and, after a goal-less first-half, made the breakthrough in the 60th minute via James Hough. With minutes to spare, the visitors cashed in again, James Douglas netting to seal a 2-0 victory.

Mersey Ferries claimed a vital point in their quest to avoid relegation. They drew 1-1 with Bronze Social, while Sutton Black Lion were second best on the day, suffering a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of third placed Pavilions.

Unbeaten Concorde Trophies Division promotion contenders Black Horse had to come from behind to gain a point against Vanser Reserves (Steve McDonald). Black Horse's equaliser came from Austin Chamberlain.
