DAVE Louden asks who had ever suggested that tunnel tolls should be financed from the Council Tax.

Well, I guess that would be me. He's right that no one has suggested such a move so far in this debate, but I mentioned it for two reasons. Firstly, the Mersey Tunnels have been subsidised by it before and, secondly, while this issue is still of public interest, it is my belief that the public should be aware of all options available.

We all benefit directly from other public services funded by Council Tax at some time in our lives, whereas most residents of Merseyside don't use the tunnels from one year to the next.
