WIRRAL'S Olympic silver medallist and World Cup winner, Steve Cummings, has added the World Team Pursuit Championship gold to his ever-growing collection of medals.
Steve, who lives in Pensby and surged to prominence at last year's Athens Olympics, was a member of the Great Britain team that swept to their first-ever World Team Pursuit championship in Los Angeles, California.
In a fantastic performance, the team won gold in the final against Holland in dominating style.
Said Steve: "It feels a bit surreal at the moment. We won it so comfortably, but before the race I was worried about the heavy track. In the final, we were cruising - there was no way we were going to lose.
"We have all worked so hard and so long for this title - it's a dream come true."
Steve, currently one of the UK's hottest young riders, made his professional debut this year with one of the top European tour teams - Lanbouwkrediet-Colnago-Sacla.
His Belgian team manager, Gerard Bulens, said of Steve's latest triumph: "I am so happy for him to have won the world title. We want him in all the major races we are riding, including pro-tour classics and other major races."
