Craig Manning reports from Prenton Park

PROMOTION-seeking Tranmere Rovers' boss Brian Little is taking things one step at a time and will only think about the end-of-season play-offs once his team gets there.

Tranmere cemented their third place position in the Coca-Cola League Division One with a solitary goal victory over relegated Stockport County at Prenton Park on Friday night. The following day, nearest club Sheffield Wednesday dropped two precious points when they could only draw, giving Rovers a clear two point gap to lead the charge for the play-offs - and a potential date at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Little, though, believes this is no time to sit back. "There's still a few things that can happen," he warned. "There's still a possibility that one, possibly two, of us will miss out. So, we will just keep working hard."

An 8,757-strong Prenton Park gate saw skipper Jason McAteer score, thanks to a Paul Hall cross, a 66th-minute goal that sealed the points for Rovers against Stockport.

Last night, Tranmere travelled South to take on seventh-placed Brentford in a crucial league encounter. And on Saturday, Rovers are back in action at Prenton Park, when Blackpool are the visitors (kick-off 3pm).
