A derailed train on the Northern Line has caused massive disruption to services, which are unlikely to return to normal for the rest of today.
An empty passenger train left the track after running over points at a depot in Kirkdale at around 10.40 this morning.
Reports say the handbrake was left off and the train rolled over the points without a driver.
Specialist equipment is being brought in to right the train, which means a stretch of the mainline is out of action.
A shuttle train is in operation between Ormskirk and Walton, and Rice Lane and Kirkby. Southport services are unaffected.
