Wirral people are being invited to Moreton Cross to hear more about work United Utilities is carrying out to improve their water supply.

The company is bringing its mobile visitors' centre to the Sacred Heart Church car park in Moreton Cross between noon and 7pm, next Thursday, May 7.

Representatives from the utilities giant will be on-hand to answer any questions local residents may have about the company's plans to replace an old 12-inch water main with a new 315mm diameter plastic pipe along Hoylake Road in Moreton.

Engineers will carry out the work - which is expected to last three months - starting on Monday, May 18.

The new 1.4km main will be laid using a continuous trench from Chadwick Street to Carr Lane, along the carriageway and in grass verges.

The project will cost around £400,000.

Chadwick Street will be closed for up to two weeks and temporary traffic lights will be used along some parts of the route to enable work to be completed as safely and quickly as possible.

There will also be some parking restrictions in force at some points along the route during the work.

"The existing water pipe has burst several times over the past few years causing disruption to customers' water supplies and traffic disruption," explained United Utilities' Project Engineer Brian Jenkins.

"We are replacing the pipe to improve the quality of water supplies for the 7,500 people living in the area and to enhance the overall reliability of the network," he added.

The replacement scheme is part of a wider £2.9 billion investment programme across the North West by the utility firm upgrading old water pipes in a drive to plug leaks and bursts across the region.
