I am writing in response to a letter in the Globe regarding the idea “Street football should be banned”. I sympathise with the reader who wrote this letter as youths playing in the streets of Merseyside is a problem and causes damage.

Three years ago, my company www.Streetcagesoccer.co.uk worked with over 120 youths a week at the two cages at Guinea Gap swimming baths and Brighton St, Wallasey.

After reducing anti-social behaviour and recieving letters of priase from police, centre managers and parents, we were amazed that funding was pulled as there was “clearly no need for this type of project”. My company has gone on to work with over 8,000 young people across the Northwest and continues to grow. Your letter-writer and the youths of Seacombe will tell you that there is a need and that street football is and should be alive, but in the cages again and under qualified supervision away from streets were people live.

Any residents, groups and parents who want to see StreetcageSoccer.co.uk back in Wallasey should email Streetcagesoccer@msn.com or phone 0775 289 8284 to discuss.
