A GREYHOUND meet-up is coming to Birkenhead.

On Saturday, June 1, owners and their four-legged friends are invited to Birkenhead Priory to celebrate National Greyhound Day 2024.

The event is in honour of Prior Henri de Becheton, who successfully claimed the right to keep his beloved greyhounds and other dogs at Birkenhead Priory in 1348.

During this period dogs were not allowed to be kept as they interfered with the hunt.

From 12pm owners and their pooches will meet on the grass in front of St Mary’s Tower for a greygound and whippet parade before a performance by community VOX singers, inside the Monk’s Refectory will take place.

At 2pm there will be a competition winner announced for the best dressed greyhound.

Representatives from the Greyhound Trust of Merseyside & Cheshire will also be in attendance to inform people about the work that they do and learn about adoption and rescuing of retired racing greyhounds and whippets.

Refreshments will be served upstairs inside the monk’s refectory from 11am to 3pm. All dogs on leads are welcome at the Priory.
