A GIRL'S football team from Wirral will get the chance to play at Wembley Stadium after winning through to the final of a national competition.
Wirral Grammar School for Girls, representing Tranmere Rovers, saw off Blackpool 2-0 and then overcame St. Joseph's Catholic Academy, representing, Sunderland 1-0 in the Northern Final of the Utilita Girls Cup to advance to the Wembley showpiece.
They will now meet Thorpe St Andrew School, representing Norwich City, in the final at Wembley Stadium ahead of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Final on Sunday, April 7.
The Utilita Girls Cup is for U13 girls and culminates in a grand final prior to the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in April.
The six aside contest starts when the new school term starts. Each club organises a local competition for all schools wishing to take part in their area, with their final often taking place at the home ground before a first team game. The winners of that competition then go on to represent the club in the Area, Regional and National phases of the competition, where they will face schools representing other League clubs.
