A WIRRAL choir has its sights set on performing their show at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden and needs your help to get them there.

Over The Water Show Choir was specially created in 2017 for BBC1 talent show Pitch Battle. The group featured singers from both sides of the Mersey, with a rehearsal base in Oxton.

It reformed in January last year, with a view to putting together a Eurovision show created by its musical directors, siblings Amy Chalmers and Matt Lammin.

With "intricate vocal arrangements, high energy choreography, surprise violins and a whole world of sequins", Over The Water made a splash at Eurovision in Liverpool back in May 2023.

They popped up all over the city, proving to be a big hit with Eurovision fans.

Their version of Mae Muller's UK entry I Wrote A Song went viral on social media when Mae herself shared their video. This led to multiple appearances on BBC national news as well as features on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 show.

The choir ended up surprising Muller mid-interview for the BBC and singing with last year's UK contestant Sam Ryder at the Albert Dock – an experience described by a group spokesperson as "a real whirlwind".

The preparations for Eurovision 2024 in Sweden are underway and the choir have their sights on performing their show over there.

They are raising funds through performances and sponsorship from local businesses to help cover some of their costs and their GoFundMe link is here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/get-over-the-water-show-choir-to-eurovision-2024

Their first big fundraising show takes place this Tuesday (March 5) at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool.

It will feature the show choir performing some of their favourite Eurovision tracks as well as support from Over The Water juniors, seniors, community choir and a cappella choir, Sunlight Unplugged, Kaboodle Community Choir and choirs from Bidston Avenue and Great Meols Primary Schools.

The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted by a Hollywood star and an iconic Eurovision-veteran; Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede will together lead the three broadcasts, live from Malmö Arena.

The Grand Final of this year's contest will take place in the Malmö Arena on Saturday, May 11 with semi-finals on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.
